Although it didn’t confirm anything, it appears that Kia is currently working on a V8-powered sedan. In a recent interview with the Australian website Drive, Kia Motors Australia COO Tony Barlow said that a rear-wheel-drive premium sedan is seen as a logical step from the Optima to the next level. Still, the COO didn’t want to give any details and said that it is too early at this stage to be more precise about this car.

Moreover, we do know that Kia will not create a new platform, as the new model (dubbed the K9) would share the same rwd platform used for the Genesis sedan and coupe. The two automakers already share front-drive platforms and it is expected that Hyundai will also share the V6 and V8 engines with Kia. The new sedan, which will take on Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Bmw will also be the most significant created under the direction of Peter Schreyer. For those who don’t know, Schreyer is currently Kia’s design boss and former head of Audi and Volkswagen design.
"I think when you can work with the rear-wheel-drive proportion it is always good for the designer," he said. "For a big sedan it is the better proportion, fantastic proportion, of course." Although there is no word about its debut from Kia, the new car is expected to be revealed in September, at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
